Sponsor a child

Keep a child fed, clothed, healthy and in school.

$30 a month provides a meal every school day, a uniform, shoes and supplies, an education that is both academic and biblical, and care at the Empukani Medical Clinic. It covers a child all the way through primary and junior secondary school in Empukani.

You will know your child's name and face, and hear each year how they are doing.

Every one of these is a real child with a name, a face and a story.

Why we do this

More than a school sponsorship.

Every child is created in the image of God and has a story, a purpose, and a future.

Through sponsorship, Mission Maasai comes alongside children in Empukani, not only helping provide the educational support they need, but building relationships, sharing the love of Jesus, and encouraging them as they learn and grow.

Your sponsorship helps a child know that they are seen, valued, loved, and worth investing in.

You're not just sponsoring a student. You're investing in a life.

Beyond Junior Secondary

Secondary (High) School

Secondary school in Kenya is grades 10 to 12 at boarding school. Students are admitted on their national exam scores, and some are admitted to trade programs instead. Either way the place has to be earned before anyone can pay for it.

The scholarship program

Some students earn a place and their families cannot cover the fees. Boarding school means fees, uniforms and travel, which is a great deal to ask of a household that lives on its livestock. When we can help, we do. We are paying for sixteen students this year.

We keep this as a scholarship program rather than an open sponsorship. It costs $75 a month to keep one student in boarding school.

This is separate from $30 sponsorship. A primary sponsorship does not automatically continue into secondary school.

Sponsorship questions

What will I receive?

A photograph of your child, and an update once a year on how they are doing in school. Enough to know exactly who you are praying for.

Can I send my child money or gifts directly?

Please don't. Everything goes through the program so that every sponsored child is treated the same. In a village where other children have nothing, singling one out creates problems for that child rather than advantages, and we would rather protect them from that.

Can I write to my sponsored child?

Yes. We aim to carry letters both ways once a year. They are hand-delivered, and the children write back through translators, so it takes time and it is not the point of sponsoring. The point is that a child is fed, clothed and in school.

Can I visit?

We travel to Kenya regularly, but we can only take a small number of people each year. Email us if you'd like to be considered for a trip.

What happens if I need to stop?

Tell us and we'll find the child a new sponsor. No penalty, no guilt. Life changes.

Does the $30 go to my specific child?

Sponsorship funds the program that serves your child: meals, uniforms, shoes and supplies at the school in Empukani, so that no sponsored child goes without if one sponsor lapses.

Is my sponsorship tax-deductible?

Yes. Mission Maasai is a registered 501(c)(3), EIN 82-1139049.

Someone is waiting for you.
